2009 Ford Escape Hybrid – No Power Steering Assist With B2278

CUSTOMER CONCERN

Power steering assist is inoperative, and DTC B2278 returns after it is cleared.

CAUSE

Testing and confirmed-fix history identify a failed steering shaft torque sensor in the electronic power-assist steering system.

CORRECTION

Remove and replace the steering shaft torque sensor. Perform the required steering torque and steering-angle sensor calibration.
