2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid – Steering Wheel Shakes With B2278
CUSTOMER CONCERN Customer states the steering wheel shakes slightly by itself while the vehicle is running and the wheel is centered. DTC B2278 is stored. CAUSE Power-steering testing confirmed a malfunctioning steering-shaft torque sensor. CORRECTION Remove and replace steering-shaft torque sensor. Perform steering-angle and torque-sensor calibration, clear DTC B2278 and verify steering operation.
2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid – No Crank With Multiple Hybrid Codes
CUSTOMER CONCERN Customer states the engine will not crank and numerous hybrid-system DTCs are stored. CAUSE The DTCs were shutdown effects from an electronics overheat condition, and testing confirmed the Motor Electronics Cooling System pump failed to circulate coolant. CORRECTION Remove and replace Motor Electronics Cooling System pump. Refill and bleed electronics cooling circuit, clear DTCs and verify pump operation.
2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid – No Crank With No DTCs
CUSTOMER CONCERN Customer states the engine will not crank or start. No DTCs are stored and the theft indicator proves out normally. CAUSE Ignition-switch circuit testing confirmed the steering-column lock module was preventing the start command. CORRECTION Remove and replace steering-column lock module. Verify normal key operation and engine starting.
2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid – Low Brake Pedal With C1525
CUSTOMER CONCERN Customer states the brake pedal is low after replacement of a failed front brake hose. DTC C1525 is stored. CAUSE Air remained trapped in the electronically controlled hydraulic brake system because the required hybrid service-bleed routine had not been completed. CORRECTION Perform complete hybrid ABS bleed procedure with a compatible scan tool and pressure bleeder. Clear DTC C1525 and verify brake-pedal height.
2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid – Wrench Light With B1239
CUSTOMER CONCERN Customer states the wrench warning light comes on intermittently. DTC B1239 is stored in the battery-control system. CAUSE Testing under TSB 07-25-12 confirmed the traction-battery auxiliary mode-door actuator failed to control cooling-air flow. CORRECTION Remove and replace traction-battery auxiliary mode-door actuator. Clear DTC B1239 and verify battery-cooling airflow control.
