2016 Toyota Prius Two – Coolant Pump Fault With P0117 P148F and P261B

CUSTOMER CONCERN

After extended driving, DTCs P0117, P148F and P261B set for engine-coolant temperature and electric water-pump performance.

CAUSE

The engine electric water pump had a broken impeller; at a 3,000-rpm command its feedback produced 15 pulses per command pulse instead of the three-pulse response seen with the replacement pump.

CORRECTION

Remove and replace the failed engine electric water pump, refill and bleed the cooling system, clear P0117, P148F and P261B, and verify commanded and actual pump-speed signals agree.
