2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid – Clicking Noise in Steering Column

CUSTOMER CONCERN

A clicking or thudding noise is heard from the steering column while turning the steering wheel, even after the related recall work was completed.

CAUSE

Inspection under Hyundai bulletin 14-ST-002-1 confirmed the flexible rubber coupling inside the motor-driven power-steering assembly was worn.

CORRECTION

Remove and replace the worn steering flexible coupling, then verify quiet steering-column operation through the full turning range.
