2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid – Slips and Stops Moving at Speed

  • Aug 15
  • 1 min read

CUSTOMER CONCERN

The vehicle drives normally at lower speed, then slips badly and stops moving when the engine clutch engages. Replacing the transmission without the attached hybrid motor did not correct the concern.

CAUSE

Engine-clutch command, pressure, solenoid, and slip data confirmed the engine clutch was slipping when commanded locked. The clutch-pressure sensor circuits are terminal 3 Red 5-volt supply, terminal 1 Black ground, and terminal 2 Blue signal. Engine-clutch solenoid resistance between terminal 2 Yellow and terminal 10 Red should be approximately 5 ohms. The confirmed failure was the engine-clutch/hybrid-motor assembly.

CORRECTION

Remove and replace the engine-clutch/hybrid-motor assembly, then verify clutch lockup and vehicle propulsion through the operating range.
