2015 Toyota Avalon Hybrid XLE Touring – Overheating With P261B

CUSTOMER CONCERN

The engine overheats and stores DTC P261B; the electric water pump reports approximately 6,000 rpm when commanded to 3,000 rpm.

CAUSE

The engine-coolant pump impeller loosened on its shaft, allowing the motor to overspeed without moving coolant correctly.

CORRECTION

Remove and replace the failed engine-coolant water pump.
